The March Madness edition

It’s the March Madness issue!
(Will AI be able to predict the winner of the NCAA basketball tournament this year? Let’s wait and see.)
In this week’s issue of The Inktelligence, I wanted to highlight a recent trend that has been popular among bootstrappers and solopreneurs and that is the so-called “vibe coding.”
What is Vibe Coding?
Vibe coding is a technique where users describe software ideas in natural language, and AI generates the code. The term was introduced by Andrej Karpathy in February 2025. With tools like Replit and Cursor, programming is becoming more and more accessible even for non-coders, shifting the focus from writing code to guiding and refining AI outputs.
Potential Downsides
While vibe coding simplifies development, it also comes with risks:
Security Risks: Users without coding expertise might miss security measures, leading to vulnerabilities that could harm end-users, like data breaches.
Code Quality and Reliability: AI-generated code may have bugs or inefficiencies, and without reviewing it, users might deploy unreliable software.
Maintenance Challenges: If users don’t understand the code, updating or fixing it later can be difficult, risking project sustainability.
Inefficiencies: AI might create bloated, inefficient code, wasting resources and affecting performance, especially for large applications.
Frustration and Burnout: Initial excitement can turn into frustration when errors persist, potentially leading to burnout.
Vibe coding is popular right now because it addresses the need for fast MVP creation even if you’re not a developer. But, as with all trends, awareness of potential downsides is crucial for anyone considering it for production code.
Using AI to write code beyond simple programs can work but if you don’t have a technical background, try to dig deeper to understand what’s actually going on behind the scenes. Be prepared for scenarios where there are security gaps if you’re going to release your product into the wild.

This is not how you want to go viral!
